EPFO E-Nomination Online Guide: Step-by-Step Process, Eligibility and Rules

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) mandates that subscribers complete e-nomination and KYC verification to process online claims, track passbook balances, and access digital retirement services.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Aadhaar-Verified UAN: Only members with Aadhaar-linked Universal Account Numbers (UAN) active on the EPFO portal can file online e-nominations.

Who Qualifies as a Valid Nominee?
- Family Definition: Spouse and children are classified as "family" for pension funds. Married subscribers must list their spouse regardless of PF nomination preference.
- Gender-Specific Rules:
- Male subscribers: Eligible nominees include spouse, children (married/unmarried), dependent parents, and predeceased son’s widow and children.
- Female subscribers: Eligible nominees include husband, children (married/unmarried), dependent parents, spouse’s dependent parents, and predeceased son’s widow and children.
- Unmarried Members: Members with no family/children can choose any nominee, though acquiring a family subsequently voids prior non-family nominations, requiring a fresh family declaration.
Step-by-Step Guide To Filing EPFO e-Nomination Online
- Login: Visit the EPF member portal (unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in) and log in using your UAN and password.
- Navigate: Go to the Manage tab and select e-nomination.
- Initiate: Click Enter new nomination, then select Proceed under the Provide Details tab.
- Family Declaration: Select Yes to update family details and click Add Family Details. Click Add now if adding multiple beneficiaries.
- Enter Details: Input nominee details including Aadhaar, name, gender, date of birth, relationship, address, bank account details (optional), guardian (for minors), and a photograph (max 100KB). Allocate percentage shares (total across nominees must equal 100 per cent).
- Save: Click Save Family Details, followed by Save EPF Nomination.
- E-Sign Verification: Return to Manage > e-nomination to view Pending Nomination. Click e-sign, enter your Aadhaar or Virtual ID, check consent for e-KYC data, and click Get OTP.

Alternative Offline Process
Members preferring offline updates must visit their nearest EPFO field office to fill and submit Form No. 2 covering EPF, Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), and Employee's Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) details.
