The production phaseout is tied to the upcoming expiration of facility leases at the location and will see small-scale manufacturing transitioned to other sites within the company's European network. Concurrently, laboratories dedicated to biological cell banks, analytical testing, and technical development will be transferred to the main Novartis campus in Basel by the end of 2028, Novartis confirmed. The company framed the adjustments as a vital step toward consolidating its operations and establishing a new biologics technical development centre on its main campus, which will complement an existing research centre. "These planned changes support our long-term strategy and further strengthen our Basel campus as a key location for research, development and innovation,” Steffen Lang, Novartis' president of operations, said in a statement.
