I saw Black Panther in a special screening some time back and was blown away by it. The movie is directed by Creed fame Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman in the lead as T'Challa, the king of Wakanda, who also wears the mantle of Black Panther. The supporting cast is just awesome with the terrific Michael B Jordan playing the main antagonist, while Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis all get their moments to shine. ICYMI, here's our review of Black Panther.

Black Panther tells us how T'Challa, following the events of Captain America: Civil War, is trying to find the balance of being a protector and hiding the secrets of Wakanda from the rest of the world. This also brings his digged traditions in questions, as he is faced with situations where he is asked why he couldn't use them to save humanity. The discussion of relevant political themes, some good actions sequences and superb performances make Black Panther a must watch, apart from the fact that it is a visual treat.

But, while watching the movie, it also reminded us of several other movies, five of which we have listed below. Needless to say, you are treading into SPOILER territory, so be careful.

Baahubali

Manoj Muntashir, who wrote the Hindi dialogues of both Baahubali and Black Panther, is not the only common factor between these two movies. There are quite a few themes that we found common in both the movies. There is the character of Okoye, the head of Dora Milaje, whose loyalty lies with the throne, doesn't matter who sits on it. Well, isn't that Kattappa for you? Also the final battle scene in the movie is so similar to the one we saw in the first Baahubali movie.

Main Hoon Na

In Farah Khan's enjoyable directorial debut, Suneil Shetty plays a villain with sympathetic and tragic background but a sense of misguided patriotism. So he doesn't mind killing innocents if it means saving his fellow Indians. This is a theme what we found in Erik Killmonger's actions as well. Also like Main Hoon Na, the villain proves to be a bigger physical force than the hero.

Thor

I know it is a Marvel movie and they are bound to borrow themes from each other. But Killmonger's desire to get the Wakandan throne for his plans to do 'good' for his community is something we have also seen in Loki's intentions too; even he felt he was a better king than Thor and would have helped rule Asgard better. Also in both the cases, the protagonists and antagonists are related, and the antagonists have a tragic past connected to the protagonists' fathers.

Casino Royale

The makers of Black Panther had already proclaimed that the movie is like a James Bond flick, what with spies and gadgets involved. T'Challa's little sister, Shuri is like Q but far more playful and badass. Also the entire Busan casino sequence will remind you of Bond in Dr No and Casino Royale.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

In a couple of scenes, T'Challa goes on a transcendental place where he gets interact with his deceased father T'Chaka. In the later sequence, T'Chaka gives him a choice of staying with his dead ancestors or returning to the living world. T'Challa also takes the opportunity to question them on their past actions. If you have read the last Harry Potter book or seen the movie, you can find a similar seen between the boy wizard and his dead mentor, Dumbledore.
