A roughly six-year-old boy identified as Aditya Kumar drew attention at a student protest in Patna on Tuesday, August 25, after taking a microphone and speaking about unemployment, the government and police action against demonstrators. Aditya, described as a first-grade student, had accompanied his parents to the protest by BPSC TRE-4 candidates and other students and job aspirants. Aditya Kumar Demands Bihar CM's Resignation
In the video, Aditya says students have been left unemployed because of the government and calls for the chief minister to resign, Prabhat Khabar reported. When asked why he had come to the protest, he said, "The corrupt have come to overthrow the government."
Asked whether he was afraid, the child said he was not. He said the country's future had been ruined and that the same could happen to him, which was why he insisted on bringing his parents to the protest. He also referred to police action during the demonstrations, saying that it was not only one person's head that was hit but that “the heads of the country’s future” had been struck.
Aditya also made a remark about the police during the protest. He said, "The day the government changes, you'll have to take care of the uniform." Later, police took Aditya and his mother into a car and drove them away, according to reports from the protest site. The identity of the woman seen accompanying the child in the widely circulated video was not independently established from the footage.
BPSC TRE-4 Candidates Protest In Patna
BPSC TRE-4 candidates and other students and job aspirants had gathered near Gandhi Maidan and attempted to march towards the chief minister's residence over employment-related demands. Protesters had also sought a meeting with the chief minister.
Police erected barricades near JP Golambar to stop the march. A scuffle reportedly broke out between protesters and police over the barricading.
The protesters subsequently broke through the barricades and reached Dakbangla Square, where police detained several students. Water cannons and lathicharge were reportedly used to control the crowd. Some students and police personnel were reportedly injured during the confrontation.
Aditya Seen Holding Tricolour On Bus
During the protest, police were reportedly taking some detained students away in a bus. Several protesters stood in front of the vehicle, while some climbed onto its roof carrying the tricolour and raising slogans.
Aditya also reached the roof of the bus while carrying the national flag. His presence and remarks subsequently became a separate talking point on social media. The video being circulated does not by itself verify all claims surrounding the protest or establish the full sequence of events.
Aditya Has Previously Joined Protests
According to reports, this was not Aditya's first appearance at a protest. He had reportedly participated in Tejashwi Yadav's march to Lok Bhavan over the paper leak issue and the AK-47 case in Siwan. He also reportedly visited students on hunger strike in Gardanibagh, where he said he was a student too and could face similar problems in the future. On that occasion, he also demanded the resignation of Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari.
The wider Patna demonstration remains centred on employment and demands raised by students and job aspirants. The protesters have sought government intervention and a meeting with the chief minister.
