Aamir Khan Responds to ‘Love Jihad’ Tag
Addressing the swirling 'Love Jihad' allegations, Aamir Khan recently spoke to Deccan Chronicle, offering a clear perspective on his family's inclusive stance. "Well, the truth is that ours is a very inclusive family," Khan stated. He elaborated on the diverse religious backgrounds within his immediate family, highlighting that both his sisters are married to Hindus, and his daughter, Ira Khan, is also married to a Hindu. His cousin, Mansoor, is married to a Christian.
Crucially, Khan emphasised that neither his previous wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, nor his current wife, Gauri Spratt, underwent religious conversion for their marriages. "Neither Gauri, Kiran nor Reena converted their religion, as we had civil marriages," Aamir clarified. He further pointed out Gauri Spratt's religious identity, noting, "Gauri is not a Hindu; she is Christian, and not even a practising Christian at that. Life is getting more comical as time passes."
Fatwa Issued Against Aamir Khan Over Third Marriage
Days after his wedding, Aamir Khan found himself facing a fatwa issued by Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta. The religious decree reportedly states that a Muslim man marrying a non-Muslim woman is not permissible under Sharia law unless the woman embraces Islam. Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, in a video shared online, described such interfaith marriages as "forbidden" and a "sin." He also commented on the notion of marrying multiple times, suggesting that individuals unable to fulfil marital responsibilities should refrain from remarrying. The fatwa has added a significant religious and political dimension to what was initially a private family affair, sparking wider conversations about faith, interfaith unions, and the public lives of celebrities.
