So it is official! Shahid Kapoor is going to play the lead in the Bollywood remake of the critically acclaimed Telugu hit, Arjun Reddy. Earlier there were speculations that Arjun Kapoor would be doing the role, but the part has now fallen on the lap of the Padmaavat hunk. He will be playing the roles essayed by the talented Vijay Devarakonda in the original. Going by Shahid's intense performances in Haider and Udta Punjab, we can say it is not a bad choice per se!

Shahid Kapoor himself confirmed the news when he posted a picture of himself on Twitter with Arjun Reddy director Sandeep Vanga (who will also be helming the remake) and producers Ashwin Varde and Murad Khetani. He captioned the picture, "Team ARJUN REDDY is READY !! Here we go. Wish us luck guys." Well, here is us wishing you guys all the very best!

Earlier it was reported that the remake rights of the movie have bought for a whopping Rs 7 crores, much higher than the normal rate of between Rs 2-5 crores. Midday quotes a source saying, “Several filmmakers were trying to bag the film's remake rights. Since it was a blockbuster, the project's adaptation is highly anticipated. Ashwin Varde and Murad Khetani shelled out a cool Rs 7 crore to the producer for the Hindi version.”

“Since Arjun Reddy was written keeping the Telugu audience's sensibilities in mind, Sandeep and the producers are currently working on the script to ensure it appeals to the Hindi cinegoer. They are keen to have a fresh pairing with Shahid. They are in advanced talks with three leading ladies. An announcement can be expected next month,” adds the source.

The film is scheduled to go on the floors in July and the team is looking for an actress opposite Shahid at the moment.
