Deepika Padukone was spotted at director Luv Ranjan's office last night with Ranbir Kapoor. This gave rise to speculations that the actress is signing a film with the filmmaker. While, on the surface, it seemed like a good career move, the fans of the actress have dug deeper into the matter and found it to be very problematic. The very fans who have supported Deepika through thick and thin are calling her out for doing a movie with a man accused of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo movement in 2018. Fans are using #NotMyDeepika on Twitter to express their opinions on the topic, thus leading to the hashtag becoming the most trending one on the site.
This is one of the extremely rare times when the fandom of a celebrity has united with the purpose of calling their favourite out. "I refuse to believe that she signed this or is thinking whether to do it or not. We all know Deepika. This is not something she would do," one fan wrote.
