According to industry reports, Singh’s legal counsel has urged the association to dismiss the complaint filed against him, challenging the trade body's authority to adjudicate the conflict. The legal team argues that the issue is entirely contractual and falls outside IMPPA's jurisdiction, asserting that only a court of law holds the legal authority to settle the dispute.
The controversy stems from a complaint lodged by Excel Entertainment, led by filmmakers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. The production house has claimed approximately INR 45 crore in financial damages following Singh’s sudden departure from the project shortly before its scheduled overseas production.
A detailed report by Mid-Day revealed that Singh's legal team submitted a formal written submission during the recent proceedings outlining his defence. The submission highlights that Singh never executed a binding formal agreement with Excel Entertainment, having only signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
An IMPPA insider disclosed to Mid-Day that the actor’s representatives urged the committee to step aside, noting that if the producers intend to pursue financial claims, they must do so in a civil court.
