Sonam Kapoor's unusual love story Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga hasn't turned out to be a crowd puller despite receiving not so bad reviews from the critics. Also starring her superstar father Anil Kapoor along with Rajkummar Rao, Juhi Chawla and south actress Regina Cassandra, the film released on last Friday, February 1, and since then hasn't managed to get cash registers ringing in India. After performing below average on the first day, ELKDTAL performed better over the weekend but the collections still weren't satisfactory. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga Box Office Collection Day 4: Sonam Kapoor and Anil Kapoor Starrer Fails the Crucial Monday Test.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to microblogging site Twitter a while back and revealed the updated figures. He tweeted, "#EkLadkiKoDekhaTohAisaLaga Fri 3.30 cr, Sat 4.65 cr, Sun 5.58 cr, Mon 1.90 cr, Tue 1.71 cr. Total: ₹ 17.14 cr. India biz."
Adarsh also announced the overseas collection of Sonam starrer and wrote, "#Overseas total till Mon: $ 1.2 mn [₹ 8.59 cr]... Key markets: USA+Canada: $ 640k, UK: $ 180k, Australia: $ 137k. #ELKDTAL." Directed by Shelly Chopra Dhar, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga had created decent buzz and curiosity amongst the audience before its release as its the first mainstream Bollywood movie about the same-sex love story.
But sadly Sonam's latest outing fell flat at the box office as it couldn't impress the audience big time. Another factor that has affected the film's performance at the box office is Vicky Kaushal's Uri: The Surgical Strike which is unstoppable. The military drama has become its biggest competition at the ticket windows after Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.
