‘Kala Hiran’ Row: Movie Not Ready for Release, Producer Tells High Court Amid Salman Khan’s Plea

The makers of the proposed film Kala Hiran: Battle for Legacy informed the Delhi High Court on Thursday (September 10) that the movie is not in a releasable state as it has yet to be certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). ‘Kala Hiran’ Not Ready for Release
Appearing before a bench headed by Justice Jyoti Singh, counsel representing film producer Amit Jani clarified that the movie is currently incomplete, has not released a full trailer, and cannot reach audiences without mandatory CBFC clearance. The submission came after Khan's legal team expressed concern over potential streaming or digital debuts, arguing that producers had previously claimed a September release timeline.
Taking note of the statements, the court recorded that the film is not ready for release and instructed the producer's counsel to file a formal response within two weeks.
Personality Rights and Media Trial Concerns
The legal dispute stems from allegations that the project illegally exploits Khan’s personality rights and attempts to sensationalise events surrounding his 1998 blackbuck poaching cases. Khan's counsel argued that promotional materials feature a protagonist bearing a strong resemblance, distinct mannerisms, and personal attributes associated with the actor.
Khan's petition contends that the film stages a "trial by media" while related legal appeals remain pending before higher courts. This action follows earlier interim rulings by the Delhi High Court in July, which ordered the removal of promotional teaser links and interview clips associated with the movie. Khan has named producer Amit Jani, Jani Firefox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, and casting director Akshay Pandey as defendants, seeking damages along with the destruction of promotional materials. The High Court has issued notice on Khan's application for interim relief and scheduled the next hearing for September 30, 2026.
