Fans eagerly awaiting Salman Khan's powerful war drama, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace, may have to wait a little longer. Latest reports on July 13, 2026, indicate that the film, which has faced multiple delays, is now likely to be pushed to a 2027 release. This development suggests that the megastar might not have a film hitting the big screens in 2026, a rarity for the 'Bhaijaan' of Bollywood. However, 2027 is poised to offer a double dose of entertainment with both 'Maatrubhumi' and his collaboration with Vamshi Paidipally, tentatively titled 'SVC 63', slated for release. Salman Khan Sells Mumbai’s Bandra Flat for INR 3.5 Crore, Bought It for INR 2.88 Crore in 2015.

‘Maatrubhumi’Not Releasing in 2026?

Maatrubhumi, directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salman Khan under his Salman Khan Films banner, was originally inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese forces. The film, which stars Salman Khan (reportedly as Colonel Santosh Babu) and Chitrangada Singh, has been grappling with a complex production journey.

Initially titled Battle of Galwan, the film underwent a name change to Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace and was originally eyeing an April 17, 2026, release, later shifting to a potential May 15, 2026, slot, with an Independence Day weekend release in August 2026 also considered. However, these dates were deferred due to significant challenges.

A Bollywood Hungama report highlights the core reasons for the persistent delays: reservations from the Ministry of Defence regarding the film's content, particularly the mention of China. A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama revealed, "The Ministry of Defence had reservations about the film's content and mention of China in the film, causing its delay." Salman Khan was advised to "tone down the anti-China portions" and subsequently initiated extensive reshoots, revising approximately 40% of the film to incorporate a fictional narrative, romance, and an expanded backstory for his character. This led to an extended reshoot period of around 40 days.

The film has also been facing hurdles regarding its certification, as Salman Khan Films clarified on July 4, 2026, that the film has not yet been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for clearance. Even if these issues are resolved soon, securing a favourable release window in the latter half of 2026 has proven difficult. Salman Khan is known for his policy of avoiding unnecessary box office clashes, making it harder to find an open date.

‘Maatrubhumi’ May Become Salman Khan's Second Release in 2027

With Maatrubhumi now leaning towards a 2027 release, it is expected to be one of Salman Khan's two major offerings that year. His other confirmed project for 2027 is the untitled film with director Vamshi Paidipally, tentatively known as SVC63. This film, produced by Dil Raju, commenced production in April 2026 and is aiming for an Eid 2027 release. Nayanthara is confirmed to star alongside Salman Khan in this project. ‘Maatrubhumi’ Postponed Again: CBFC Delays Salman Khan’s War Film Despite Title Change – Report.

The teaser for Maatrubhumi was unveiled on Salman Khan's 60th birthday, December 27, 2025, further fueling excitement for the project.
