During the exclusive chat, when confronted with the long-rumoured feelings Govinda harboured for her, Neelam Kothari candidly responded, “I was too young. I didn't know that he was married. I learnt about it later.” She further elaborated on why a relationship was never an option for her at that stage of her life, saying, “I was too young, and I had very strict parents. So a relationship was never an option.”
Her husband, actor Samir Soni, who was present during the interview, echoed a pragmatic view, remarking that he doesn't dwell on events that may or may not have transpired decades ago.
Neelam also recalled her initial years in the industry, explaining that her focus was primarily on learning Hindi and perfecting her dance moves. She mentioned that a family member always accompanied her to film shoots due to her young age, not because of any concerns about the film industry itself.

He revealed he couldn't stop praising her to his friends, family, and even his then-partner Sunita Ahuja, often asking Sunita to become more like Neelam.
In a significant revelation, Govinda confessed that his feelings for Neelam were so strong that he temporarily broke off his engagement with Sunita. “I asked Sunita to leave me. I broke off my engagement with her. And, had Sunita not called me after five days and coaxed me into it again, I would probably have married Neelam,” Govinda stated in the old interview.
He further expressed regret, admitting he "played dirty" by not informing Neelam about his marital status. Govinda had married Sunita Ahuja in 1987.
