The anticipated collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji in the upcoming social drama OMG 3 (reportedly titled Oh My Goddess) has hit a standstill. Despite widespread reports earlier this year suggesting the two 1990s icons would share the screen for the first time, newer updates indicate that Mukerji is no longer part of the project. ‘OMG 3’: Did Akshay Kumar Hint at Debut Collaboration With Rani Mukerji in His Shoutout for ‘Mardaani 3’?.

The film, which serves as the third instalment in the critically acclaimed OMG – Oh My God! franchise, is currently in its pre-production phase. While the news of Mukerji's exit has disappointed fans, the production team is reportedly moving forward with a search for a new female lead.

Rani Mukerji Not in ‘OMG 3’?

According to a recent report by Variety India, the initial excitement surrounding the casting was based on preliminary talks that did not materialise into a formal agreement. While the actors were reportedly keen on the project, the collaboration fell through as the creative process evolved.

"Akshay and Rani share a great long-standing relationship and were genuinely excited about teaming up, but those were very early conversations," a source told Variety India.

The report further clarified that although the actress found the story outline compelling, "talks never progressed beyond that," leading the makers to explore other options for the lead role.

A Divine Feminine Perspective

The third chapter of the franchise is expected to follow the successful template of its predecessors by blending sharp social satire with religious themes. Directed by Amit Rai, who also helmed the hit OMG 2, the upcoming film is rumoured to shift its focus toward a "divine feminine" narrative.

Unlike the first two films, which featured male protagonists (Paresh Rawal and Pankaj Tripathi) navigating legal and social battles with divine intervention, OMG 3 is designed to centre on an "important and hard-hitting topic pertaining to women."

 ‘OMG 3’ Production Timeline

Despite the casting change, the film remains on track to begin filming in May or June 2026. Akshay Kumar is expected to return in an extended cameo similar to his portrayal of a messenger of Lord Shiva in the second instalment, while also serving as a producer through his banner. Raaj Shaandilyaa Slams Ektaa Kapoor’s Legal Notice, Confirms Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bhagam Bhag 2’ Is Not Shelved.

In the meantime, Rani Mukerji is coming off the box-office success of Mardaani 3, which was released in early 2026. She is also slated to appear in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer King. Akshay Kumar maintains a busy slate for the year, including projects such as Bhooth Bangla and Welcome to the Jungle.
