Salman Khan’s highly anticipated war drama, Maatrubhumi, has reportedly been pushed back from its original April schedule. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film formerly titled Battle of Galwan is now expected to arrive in theatres next month as the production team finalises the remaining post-shoot requirements. ‘Maatrubumi’: Release of Salman Khan’s Upcoming War Film Delayed After Singer-Actor Prashant Tamang’s Death – Reports.

‘Maatrubhumi’ To Release on May 15?

While the film was initially slated for an April 17 debut, industry insiders suggest that the makers are now targeting a mid-May launch. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the production team is exploring various windows to ensure the film receives an optimal theatrical run.

A source quoted by the publication stated, “The additional shoot is done, and the film will be ready soon. Hence, the makers feel that it's better to bring out the film sooner rather than later. They are looking at several options and are seriously considering May 15.”

Strategic Shift and Box Office Clashes

The decision to aim for a May release reportedly stems from a desire to avoid a crowded second half of the year. The producers had briefly considered an Independence Day release in August, but ultimately decided against it to avoid a high-profile box office clash with Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol’s Lahore 1947.

“At one point, they wanted to get the film out on Independence Day, but that won't be possible as Aamir Khan has taken the slot," the source told Bollywood Hungama. "The current plan is to ascertain if releasing Maatrubhumi on May 15 is possible. If not, they’ll release it later.”

More About ‘Maatrubhumi’

The film underwent a significant rebranding last month when Salman Khan unveiled the new title along with a fresh poster. The change from the Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi was accompanied by the poignant tagline: “May War Rest in Peace.” Salman Khan-Dil Raju Project Officially Announced: Bollywood Superstar To Begin Shoot for Vamshi Paidipally’s Film From THIS Month in 2026.

Director Apoorva Lakhia has clarified that the title change reflects the film's deeper focus on the emotional and human cost of conflict rather than just the mechanics of battle. Starring Salman Khan as an Indian Army Colonel, the project remains one of the most talked-about releases of 2026, marking a rare foray into the gritty war-drama genre for the superstar.
