Yet another biopic arrives in Bollywood this time in the form of Soorma. Based on the life of Indian hockey play Sandeep Singh, Soorma stars Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu in the lead, with Angad Bedi, Vijay Raaz and Satish Kaushik in supporting roles. The movie is directed by Shaad Ali, known for making films like Saathiya, Bunty Aur Babli, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and OK Jaanu. Our in-house critic Sreeju Sudhakaran is watching the movie right now and here's what he has to say about the first half -

"Harpreet, played by Taapsee Pannu, narrates the incredible story of Sandeep Singh aka Flicker Singh. As a child, Sandeep was never interested in hockey. But he was naturally talented in the extremely difficult drag flick move, though he himself is not aware of this. When he grows up, he falls for Harpreet, a hockey player herself. To impress her, he returns to playing hockey. And through this romance, India got an awesome hockey player.

The first half depicts Sandeep's emergence as an international hockey player and his romance with Harpreet. The movie completely belongs to Diljit Dosanjh, who impressed both being the happy go lucky guy and the determined hockey player. Taapsee Pannu puts up a strong show and so do Angad Bedi and Vijay Raaz. There are some callbacks to Salman khan's Sultan and Aamir Khan's Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. But a breezy first half will make you ignore the inconsistencies. The interval point arrives when Sandeep becomes the victim of the accidental shooting. Fingers crossed that the movie would reach greater heights from here."
