Apart from Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam's Uri: The Surgical Strike, Anupam Kher's controversial film The Accidental Prime Minister also released on Friday, January 11. Though the critics weren't wowed by the film, it still got a average opening at the Indian box office. Directed by Vijay Gutte, the political drama started off on a slow note in the morning shows but picked up during the evening and ended up minting Rs 4.50 crore on day 1. Considering the movie doesn't star a big name, the opening was pretty decent for Kher's film. On day 2, unlike Uri: The Surgical Strike, Anupam Kher's film saw a jump of only 15% in its collection at the ticket windows as per BoxOfficeIndia.com. And though the official figures aren't out, this means the two-day collection of The Accidental Prime Minister roughly stands around Rs 9.5 crore which isn't bad at all as the film has been protested by many.
Based on the eponymous book by Sanjaya Baru, the Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna starrer has been produced by Jayantilal Gada. The film received not-so-great reviews from the critics but could turn out to be a success story at the box office if it manages to impress the moviegoers with its interesting storyline. Also, a lot of films in the recent past that failed to wow the critics still ended up with good box office figures like Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput's Kedarnath and Kannada movie KGF Chapter 1 which was dubbed in Hindi. So there is still hope for The Accidental Prime Minister but only time will tell if it joins the bandwagon or not.
