Aamir Khan may be the most famous Indian superstar in China, but it doesn't mean that every film of his has to work there. The actor has scored monsters hits with 3 idiots, PK, Dangal and Secret Superstar in our neighbouring country. Why, thanks to China, Dangal has been the highest grossing Indian film worldwide, nearly touching Rs 2000 crore mark globally. However, Aamir's latest film, Thugs of Hindostan, underperforms in his favourite market with a disappointing opening weekend. Thugs of Hindostan Box Office China: Aamir Khan’s Magic Fails to Work As the Pirate Film Has a Disappointing Start.

Thugs of Hindostan, which also disappointed at the Indian box office too, couldn't sway over China. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Thugs of Hindostan has only managed to collect Rs 32.93 crore in China in its opening weekend. You can blame the debacle perhaps on the bad reception in India or the fact that the movie doesn't have a social message unlike Aamir's previous hits there. Whatever the case is, this is another setback that Mr Khan would never have expected. Fatima Sana Shaikh Expresses Her Disappointment Over Thugs of Hindostan Failure.

However, we also need to add the Yash Raj Films, who has produced Thugs of Hindostan, are in profits over the China deal thanks to the sale of the rights and it is the distributors who are in loss. Earlier, Akshay Kumar's Pad Man also disappointed in its China release, while his last year's Toilet - Ek Prem Katha has done more than decent business there.

It is not that China has been tired of Indian films by now. This year, we also saw Aamir Khan's Secret Superstar and Rani Mukerji's Hichki doing some great business in the country. It's all the matter of good content that connects with the audience there.

Thugs of Hindostan is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, and also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. A Diwali release, Thugs of Hindostan might have underperformed at the domestic box office, but it still holds the record of the highest opening day earnings.
