Welcome to New York has turned out to be such a disaster at the box office that the producers are not even giving out the collections of the movie. On paper, this should have been a success. The idea of Welcome To New York sounded like a great idea on paper - a satire based on the workings of a popular award show shot at the real event. Sonakshi Sinha and Diljit Dosanjh are both very likable leads and the idea of Karan Johar mocking himself while also his evil doppelganger is quite a cool one. Also there are plenty of celebrity cameos! What's to go wrong here? And then, they made the movie.

From the promos itself, we got the inkling that this was a disaster. But to have got such a poor response at the box office is something we never thought...okay, who am I kidding? The signs were already there. Here are 5 reasons why Welcome To New York was a miserable flop at the box office.

Bad trailer

There is no denying that the both the teaser and the trailer were really lame. Apart from a couple of forced chuckles, they hardly managed to make any kind of impression on the viewers. Everytime the trailer was played in theatres, I could hear the audiences cringing. If the first impression is this bad, then it was quite an uphill task for the movie ahead.

Bad promotions

Okay, fine, the trailer has been bad. At least make the movie remain in the the trends by promoting it heavily. But that was not the case with Welcome To New York, as there was no enthusiasm in the makers to promote the movie. Many people didn't even realise the movie had come out last week. Good job, guys!

Bad humour

Welcome To New York was touted as India's first 3D comedy which is wrong on both its claims. 3D comedies have been made in India before, and secondly, it is not a comedy at all. Simply because, most of the jokes suck, save for a couple of meta jokes. And if a comedy can't make you laugh, why does it exist in the first place?

Bad movie

Not just the humour, the whole movie falls apart when it comes to its execution (sloppy), screenplay (pathetic) and technical values (poor to average). Moreover, it was not the fantastic thriller that the makers made it sound.  Even the lure of several celeb cameos ranging from Salman Khan to Aditya Roy Kapur can help hide the fact, that it is a bad, bad movie!

Bad reviews

It's logical. Bad movies lead to bad reviews, and unless you have a Salman Khan taking off his shirt and shooting off 50 villains at a time, your movie is a goner!
