Ajinkya Shinde, the National Organisation In-Charge of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has been named to lead the organisation’s Jantar Mantar protest in Delhi after founder Abhijeet Dipke and co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained at the airport on Saturday, October 10. Shinde’s appointment puts the spotlight on the organisational leader tasked with steering the demonstration as the group demands the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

In a post on its official X account, CJP said Shinde would lead the protest until the three detained leaders were released. The organisation also said Dipke had recorded a video the previous night in anticipation of a possible arrest. Who Is Ajinkya Shinde?

Ajinkya Shinde is a Maharashtra-based political organiser who serves as CJP’s National Organisation In-Charge. The organisation announced his appointment in August 2026, when it formalised its national leadership structure under founder and National Convener Abhijeet Dipke.

Shinde’s responsibilities include organisational coordination as CJP develops its national network. The group has outlined plans to establish state coordination committees and expand its presence at the Lok Sabha and city levels.

According to a profile published by The Indian Express in August, Shinde was 35 and a resident of Latur, Maharashtra. He holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, according to the report. CJP Jantar Mantar Protest 2.0: Lawyers Detained Near Supreme Court Amid Demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation.

Ajinkya Shinde’s Role in CJP

CJP named Shinde National Organisation In-Charge as part of its inaugural national leadership roster announced on August 6. The structure also included Dipke as National Convener, with Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka serving as co-conveners.

Other appointments included Deepak Baliyan as Organisation Co-In-Charge, Aafreen Nawaz as National Secretary, Vijay Reddy Mallangi as Media Head, Ratna Singh as Legal Affairs Head and Rohan Deshpande as Technology Lead. The appointments marked the group’s move towards a more formal organisational structure after its earlier protests and public campaigns.

Ajinkya Shinde’s Previous Association With AAP

Shinde has also been associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). A report by ThePrint identified him as a former convener of the AAP’s Maharashtra Youth Wing and noted his previous association with the party’s Goa unit as a co-in-charge.

OpIndia has also reported that Shinde held organisational responsibilities within AAP before moving into CJP’s leadership structure. His earlier political background is relevant to understanding his organisational experience, although his current role in the CJP is distinct from the positions attributed to him during his AAP association.

Why Is Ajinkya Shinde Leading the CJP Protest?

Shinde’s leadership role comes after Delhi Police detained Dipke, Das and Ranka from inside their aircraft shortly after it landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday morning. The three had travelled from Mumbai to participate in the planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

The protest was called to demand CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, with CJP raising concerns about the electoral process, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and issues relating to voter registration.

Delhi Police had denied permission for the proposed gathering, citing the short notice given by organisers and concerns relating to public order, safety and traffic, according to Hindustan Times. CJP subsequently announced that Shinde would lead the demonstration until the three leaders were released. The organisation’s statement indicated that the detention of its prominent members would not, by itself, end its protest plans.

Further details about Shinde’s leadership of the demonstration and the status of the detained leaders were awaited.
