The 66th National Film Awards were announced today, with a ceremony to take place later. Some very expected names have bagged the top honours at India's most prestigious award ceremony. One of the expected names was 74-years-old Surekha Sikari. The actress gave an exemplary performance in the movie, Badhaai Ho. With her endearing act, she was able to remind the audience of their grandparents. Needless to say, she won hearts and accolades. Now, Surekha has added another feather to the cap by bagging National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. We are so proud. The film Badhaai Ho was also able to fetch the Best Popular Film Award at the NFA 2019. The movie talked about middle-age pregnancy. Surekha played mother-in-law to Neena Gupta, who gets pregnant in her late 40s to the disappointment of her sons and extended family. For her performance, in Badhaai Ho, Surekha has also won awards at Star Screen Awards, Filmfare Awards, News18 Reel Movie Awards. And be sure that there are more awards to come in the coming years as Surekha has said in an interview, "Retirement is an outdated word left to us by the British... There’s no limit to your work. Do anything you enjoy! Retirement doesn’t mean anything. You bet I have a lot of work ahead of me yet,"

Not that she was not popular already with her sting on popular TV shows like Balika Vadhu, Surekha received unparalleled love and affection post-Badhaai Ho. The actress has said that she was not used to the attention but it was wonderful.
