Producer Jaswant Kumar Arrested in INR 78.29 Lakh Cheating Case

The arrest of Jaswant Kumar, the head of Shri J Sohrata Production House, took place in the Andheri West area of Mumbai following the issuance of a non-bailable warrant. A team from Varanasi Police travelled to Mumbai to apprehend the producer. After his arrest, Kumar was presented before an Andheri court, which granted a transit remand, allowing the police to bring him back to Varanasi for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Details of the Fraud Allegations

According to an NDTV report, the fraud complaint was lodged by Surendra Kumar Yadav, a resident of Rustampur in the then Chaubepur police station area, now under the jurisdiction of Sarnath Police Station, Varanasi. Yadav alleged that Jaswant Kumar's firm, Shri J Sohrata Production House, entered into a partnership agreement with his brother Virendra Yadav's firm, Mesars Shiva Film & TV House, on October 9, 2017.

Under this agreement, Kumar allegedly received ₹78.29 lakh for the production of the film 'Wanted'. The understanding was that the amount would be returned, along with a share of the profits generated by the film. However, the complainant claims that neither the invested amount nor any profits were ever returned.

Timeline of the Case

The Bhojpuri film Wanted, starring Pawan Singh, was released in 2018. The formal complaint regarding the alleged fraud was first registered at the Sarnath Police Station in Varanasi on April 26, 2022. Police sources indicate that Jaswant Kumar reportedly evaded the investigation for nearly four years and did not cooperate with authorities, leading to the issuance of the non-bailable warrant that facilitated his recent arrest.

Police Action and Investigation

Sarnath Station House Officer (SHO) Pankaj Tripathi led the police team responsible for the arrest. The team included Sub-Inspector Avnish Mishra, Head Constable Shivshankar Rai, and Arvind Yadav. Following the transit remand, Kumar has been sent to judicial custody as the police continue their probe. Authorities are now investigating if Kumar may have similarly defrauded other investors under the guise of film financing. Anjali Raghav Drops Case Against Pawan Singh After Public Apology; Legal Action Against Social Media Team Over Cyber-Harassment Continues.
