A recently held shimmery award ceremony, Filmfare Awards South 2018 was attended by who’s who from Tollywood, Mollywood and Kollywood industries. However, there were less faces seen from the Tamil film industry than the other industries. Bigwigs from the industry like Nayanthara (Best Actress awardee), Vijay Sethupathi (Best Actor winner) as Karthi (Critics' Best Actor winner) ditched the glamorous event and the reason is out now. Turns out that the actors from Tamil industry who are the part of actors' association named ‘Nadigar Sangam’ protested the organizers as they refused to pay the customary donation to the association.

Revealing the exact details about the protest, the association’s statement to The News Minute says, “Considering the above, it had been officially resolved in Nadigar Sangam special meeting that actors should participate only in functions in which they are paid, or only in functions where the organising entities contribute donations to Nadigar Sangam and Tamil Film Producer Council. This practice and decision has been communicated clearly to Filmfare Awards organisers in view of the function to be held in Hyderabad on 16 June, 2018. Since the organisers of the event did not cooperate and come forth with any positive response, the same was communicated to our members.”

It is reported that this amount given to the association is later used for the betterment of the needy members of the association. The educational and the health welfare of these people are taken care of through this donation. However, the award function organizers rejected to give the hefty amount demanded by the Nadigar Sangam.
