Yash and Srinidhi Shetty’s big-budget film KGF Chapter I is successfully running in the theatres even in its third week. The Hindi version of the Kannada film is, in fact, inching towards the Rs 40 crore mark and that’s pretty phenomenal. Despite releasing alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited film Zero on December 21, KGF has maintained its good run at the box office since day 1. The action film, which has been directed by Prashanth Neel, has so far raked in Rs 37.20 crore in Hindi. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to micro-blogging site Twitter a while back and announced the updated box office figures. KGF Chapter I Movie Review: Yash Stands Tall in This Needlessly Stretched Violent Saga.
He tweeted, "#KGF is maintaining the rhythm... Eyes ₹ 40 cr+ mark, an impressive total since it successfully faced two biggies in two consecutive weeks... [Week 3] Fri 90 lakhs, Sat 1.35 cr, Sun 2 cr. Total: ₹ 37.20 cr. India biz. Note: HINDI version."
Adarsh also wrote, "#KGF biz at a glance...Week 1: ₹ 21.45 cr, Week 2: ₹ 11.50 cr, Weekend 3: ₹ 4.25 cr...Total: ₹ 37.20 cr. India biz. Note: HINDI version."
What's interesting is that KGF has also fared brilliantly at the worldwide box office by surpassing the Rs 100 crore mark within 6 days of its release. In fact, the Yash starrer is now looking to enter the Rs 200 crore club at the worldwide BO. At the US box office, KGF became the fastest Kannada movie to cross the $300K mark. With such impressive box office numbers to its credit, all we can say is that Yash's performance has indeed worked in favour of the film despite garnering not-so-great reviews from the critics.
Apart from Yash and Srinidhi, KGF also stars Achyuth Kumar, Malavika Avinash, Anant Nag and Vasishta N Simha in important roles. While the film has been produced by Vijay Kirgandur, the Hindi version of KGF is backed by Farhan Akhtar's production company Excel Entertainment.
