The first half of Petta is really long, but Karthik Subbaraj has peppered the narrative with enough mass, fun moments that you really don't get bored. He has made fine use of Rajinikanth's superstar persona giving us many moments to cheer. It has been some time that I saw Rajinikanth looking to have fun with his role, Kaala coming a close second before it went all political. The rest of the cast, including Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha and Simran Bagga, are okay in being relegated to the sidelines as they let Thalaiva do his inimitable swagger, though they have their moments. The interval point arrives when we are finally going to see what Kaali's history is and what it has got to do with. Nawazuddin Siddiqui's ailing gangster, Singaar Singh."
