Mani Ratnam is one of the ace filmmakers of Tamil cinema and has also delivered some amazing films in other industries too. The Tamil film Chekka Chivantha Vaanam is the one which he directed last. Since quite some time there has been buzz revolving around his next project, Ponniyin Selvan, which is touted to be a magnum opus. And it is said that the bigwigs of Indian cinema have been roped in for this project. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram Prabhu, Keerthy Suresh, Karthi and many other stars have apparently been roped in for this upcoming project. Ponniyin Selvan is said to be filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s dream project and it is also said that it would be his assistant director Dhanasekaran who’ll be directing this magnum opus. It is based on the historical novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Based on the story of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola King Rajaraja Chola I, it is rumoured that Mani Ratnam’s film will be a multi-starrer. Earlier a source revealed to News Today, “Karthi, Vikram and Jayam Ravi have been finalised to play the leads. Karthi and Jayam Ravi will start shooting for their portions from the first week of December while Vikram will complete a couple of films before joining the sets of Ponniyin Selvan. However, official announcement about the star cast and their roles is still awaited. Last month, trade analyst Ramesh Bala had tweeted that the shooting of the film will start in June. It was in November last year when Govind Vasantha had announced that he has been signed up for a project with Mani Ratnam. Well, there have been various hints dropped, let’s wait and watch what is in store for us.
