A new trailer of Catherine The Great, starring Helen Mirren as the monarch and politician who ruled the Russian empire in the 18th century is here. The four-part HBO series also stars Jason Clarke as Grigory Potemkin, the military commander. The trailer looks impressive as we see Mirren in the role of the cold monarch who pulls down the men who try to take her throne. In the trailer, we see her strongly say, "I will not share my throne." F*** Netflix! Helen Mirren Slams Netflix at CinemaCon 2019 for Killing 'Cinema' Experience.

Mirren shines in a role that shows her as the monarch who despite facing strong opposition in a patriarchal society, kept her throne. As the trailer starts, we see her saying, "Do you know who I am? I have survived in a world that does not want me.”The series revolves mainly around Catherine’s reign and her affair with Russian military leader Grigory Potemkin and the role it played in shaping up Russian politics. After the success of web shows such as Netflix's The Crown, this HBO mini-series dealing with history could work well with the audiences.

Not many know that Mirren was initially sceptical about taking up this role. In an interview to the Independent, she said, "History doesn’t like very successful, very powerful women. They have to drag them down, and history tried to drag Catherine down. I hope we are going to reinstate her reputation as the incredible leader that she was.” The Good Liar Trailer: Ian McKellen Makes Us Super Inquisitive As He Plays A Charlatan In Bill Condon's Film Which Also Stars Helen Mirren.

From the trailer, the political drama does seem intriguing and considering Mirren has won an Academy Award previously for playing Queen Elizabeth II in 2006’s The Queen, we can expect her to give yet another stellar performance in this period piece.

The mini-series also stars Jason Clarke, Gina McKee, Rory Kinnear, and Richard Roxburgh in key roles. It is all set to premiere on October 21.
