The trend lately is that popular television serials are making a comeback. Some of these shows have retained their original characters, while, there are others, that have kept the concept intact, but have brought in fresh faces. It is in fact a very tricky path to tread into. We had all missed Monisha’s middle-class attitude, Rosesh’s hilarious poems and the cute antics of Indu Sarabhai for years, but when they came back in their new show, Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2, comparisons were drawn with their original one, and it didn’t receive a great response. So, there is always a fear of acceptance and an anxiety to live up to the expectations of the audience, who have been waiting eagerly for all these years.

Popular comedy serial Khichdi is all set to make its return on TV from April 14. The hilarious promo, featuring all your favourite cast, including Rajeev Mehta (Praful), Supriya Pathak (Hansa), Anang Desai (Babuji) and Vandana Pathak (Jayshree) is out. JD Majethia plays the role of Himanshu in the show, which will run on Star Plus.

Here's a look at some of the popular comedy serials, which decided to return for the second time, following the huge demand from the audience.

Srimaan Srimati Phir Se:

90’s superhit comedy Srimaan Srimati Phir made their comeback on television after ages, recently. While the show retains the old world nostalgia through its storyline, but it is put in a modern backdrop. Even though, it is too early to give a verdict, however, according to reports, the initial response from the audience for this new show is quite lacklustre.

Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2:

This year, popular comedy show Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2, made their come back, not on TV, but only on Hotstar, keeping in mind the increase of content in digital. There were reports that the show failed to keep the audience hooked on.

Hum Paanch Phir Se:

A rebooted version of the cult comedy Hum Paanch Phir Se, started in Big Magic last year, went off air few months back, owing to low ratings. The story line revolved around hilarious troubles that Anand Mathur faced thanks to his five daughters. The original Hum Paanch ran on Zee TV and popular actress Vidya Balan used to play the role of Radhika Mathur in it.

Looking at the past records of disappointing revivals of popular shows, it will be interesting to see, if the new  Khichdi will manage to spread endless laughter and rekindle fond memories, which people associate with the original show.
