Mumbai, July 30: One more person, who was injured in the collapse of Andheri’s Gokhale overbridge on July 3, succumbed to Injuries on Sunday, taking the death toll to two. 52-year-old Manoj Mehta, a Chartered Accountant by profession, succumbed to infection and multi-organ dysfunction. The Vile Parle resident was on ventilator since the tragedy took place.

Manoj used to catch the 7:28 am Dahanu local train from Andheri daily. On July 3, he was waiting for the train on platform number 8 of Andheri railway station when concrete debris from the Gokhle bridge came crashing down on him. After initial treatment at RN Cooper Hospital, critically injured Manoj was shifted to Balabhai Nanavati Hospital for surgery.

Manoj suffered critical injuries on the spine, ribs, shoulder and lungs. According to Dr Rajendra Patankar, COO of Balabhai Nanavati Hospital, the damage to his spine and other organs were grave. “He was conscious at times as his brain functions were not affected, but overall he remained critical throughout,” Patankar told Times of India.

Manoj was declared dead at around 7:30 pm. He became the second victim of Gokhale bridge collapse tragedy. Earlier, 35-year-old Asmita Katkar died following the collapse. She was returning after dropping her six-year-old son Siddhesh to school when the bridge collapsed. Three others who were injured in the collapse are on their way to recovery.
