Mumbai, August 1: Mumbai local trains are considered as the lifeline of the people in this city, even day thousands of people use this mode of transport to commute. However, there has been an increase in thefts taking place in stations. According to a Mumbai Mirror report, a data compiled by Western Railway says that Andheri station has topped the list of theft cases, with 1,825 cases, in just six months.

The station sees daily passenger traffic of over six lakhs. The next in line are- Bandra and Borivali station with 1,461 and 1,429 cases respectively. Almost 90 percent of the cases are related to mobile phone thefts. Scarcity in the number of CCTV cameras is also one of the reasons, why there is an increase in crimes. E.g. Andheri station, which is supposed to have 161 cameras, has only 42.

However, there has been dip in the number as compared to last year during the same period. Officials have credited it to extensive operations and awareness drives. So Mumbaikars, be alert and stay safe!
