Details of the Bihar Government Assurance
The government said no adverse legal action would be taken against any individual involved in the protests before the July 26 cutoff across Bihar. The legal process to withdraw existing FIRs, complaints and notices tied to those protests would start immediately. All persons arrested or detained in cases registered before 6 PM on that date would be released at once. No direct or indirect action would follow in those cases in the future. According to Bihar Police figures reported in news coverage, nearly 700 people had been detained in connection with the protests and a statewide bandh called by student groups. Official Response from Saurav Das
Saurav Das of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) described the Bihar decision as a significant relief for students and protesters. He noted that it came hours after a CJP press conference that had raised the possibility of further protests in Delhi if the guarantees were not honoured. In a video statement on X (formerly Twitter), Das said, "Friends another major victory for the young of this country". He further said that the Bihar government's decision came after CJP declared possible Delhi protests if guarantees are not honoured.
"We have scripted history together. We are in this together. We are gonna take this to the end," he added. The move applies only to participation before the stated cutoff. Cases or actions after that time fall outside the scope of the current assurance. Officials indicated that the administrative process for withdrawals and releases would now proceed in the relevant districts.
