After being in the centre of major controversies, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) underwent their re-evaluation process. In the report, it was revealed that 50 percent of students of class 12 who applied for a re-check got more marks. In fact, the city of Nagpur got a new topper Ishrita Gupta in arts stream, all thanks to CBSE's re-evaluation process. As soon as this significant blooper was highlighted, a few renowned media outlets started declaring Ishrita as the national topper instead of Meghna Srivastava, who scored 499 out of 500. CBSE Major Blooper Exposed! 50 Percent Students in Class 12 Got More Marks After Re-Evaluation. 

It is true that a headline can make or even break a news. A report by TOI revealed Nagpur’s new topper Ishrita’s marks in political science increased by 22 post-re-evaluation. Seventeen of her answers were not marked correctly. A few hours later, popular media sites announced her as the national topper in arts stream, while some stated that Ishrita was sharing the top position with Meghna Srivastava. However, it turns out both the claims are incorrect! After undergoing a re-check, Ishrita scored 94 out of 100 marks in political science, which gives her a 97 percent score in aggregate. This recent re-evaluation makes her only Nagpur’s topper and not the national topper as some publications claim. That distinction is still held by  CBSE class 12 topper Meghna who scored 99.8 percent.

There is no doubting the students' calibers, but such bogus news end up misleading the readers and demotivating the students, especially since it comes from big names. A little fact checking could have averted the embarrassing situation. Talking about CBSE’s mismanagement, this year, it has been revealed that out of 9,111 class 12 students who requested for a re-check, 4,632 students were not correctly evaluated. Clearly, the board's two evaluators per answer book method didn't work.
