The closure in Mumbai comes as several other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Maharashtra remain on alert. Thane district has ordered the closure of all Anganwadis, schools, and colleges on July 7 after an Orange Alert was issued for the district, while Navi Mumbai has also declared a holiday for all educational institutions citing heavy rainfall and student safety. Nashik has additionally been placed on high alert over the possibility of a cloudburst, with several other districts, including Palghar and Raigad, also bracing for extremely heavy rain in the coming days.
