Chennai, May 4: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced train tickets for students travelling outside the state for appearing in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). According to a tweet by ANI, the students, who have been allotted exam centres in neighbouring Kerala will be getting a second-class train ticket and an assistance of Rs 1000.

This move comes hours after the Supreme Court put a stay on a Madras High Court direction that asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to set up more centres in the state for the upcoming medical test on Sunday, May 6.

Coming to the support of NEET aspirants, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) led by T.T.V. Dinakaran on Friday announced that it will help with lodging facilities NEET aspirants from Tamil Nadu who have been allotted exam centres Kerala.

The CBSE had moved the Supreme Court against the Madras High Court order, stating that it doesn't have sufficient time to arrange for exam centres in Tamil Nadu. The apex court stayed the Madras High Court order and asked  CBSE to ensure proper arrangements are in place from next year onwards to allow students from Tamil Nadu to appear for the entrance exam within the state.

With the decision of the Supreme Court, students who will appear for the NEET exam were unhappy as they had to travel from Tamil Nadu to Kerala to appear for the examination.  The apex court order comes as a jolt to 12 lakh medical aspirants who will appear for the examination this week. Reports inform that about 1000 to 1500 students will have to travel to Ernakulum and other centres in Kerala.
