The National Testing Agency (NTA) is working on a war footing to declare the results of the re-National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) by July 20. Despite the re-examination and an influx of approximately 10,000 challenges filed against the provisional answer key, officials confirmed that the academic year for incoming MBBS students will not be delayed. The re-NEET was conducted on June 21 after the original May 3 exam, which was taken by over 20 lakh students, was cancelled due to an alleged paper leak.

Expedited Evaluation Process

A senior NTA official told news agency ANI that the agency is prioritising a swift evaluation process. "We would not like to give out any date as of now, but the result will be out by July 20. Normally, the results are announced within 45 days of the examination, but this time, as we have conducted the exam in 37 days, we will announce the results much earlier," the official said in a telephonic interview. NBEMS NEET PG 2026 Exam To Be Held in Single Shift on August 30; Check Dates, Fees and Step-by-Step Guide.

The agency released the provisional answer key on June 25, giving candidates a three-day window until June 28 to raise objections. During this period, candidates submitted nearly 10,000 challenges. According to the official, each challenge is being individually scanned and cross-referenced with the supporting evidence provided by the candidates before the agency issues a final response. Candidates were required to pay a processing fee of Rs 200 per challenged question, which will be refunded if their objection is found to be valid.

Admissions and Counselling Unaffected

While the NTA has maintained that the academic session will begin on time, there is currently no formal clarity on the upcoming counselling schedule, a process that generally takes over a month to complete. In a standard year, the first-year MBBS academic session typically begins in August or September, depending on the speed of the counselling rounds. The official noted that this year's session is expected to adhere to a similar timeline. Once the NTA declares the results, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will release the counselling schedule for the 15 per cent All India Quota, which covers seats in AIIMS, JIPMER, and central and deemed universities. Following this, individual states will announce separate counselling schedules to fill the remaining 85 per cent state quota seats. Railway RRB Group D Result 2026 Out at rrb.digialm.com: How To Check Scorecard and What’s Next.

The standard admission process requires eligible candidates to register online, pay necessary fees, and lock in their college and course preferences. Seats are subsequently allocated based on the candidate's NEET rank, category, reservation guidelines, and seat availability. The process includes multiple phases, eventually concluding with mop-up and stray vacancy rounds to fill any remaining openings. To avoid delays, some states have already initiated preliminary admission procedures. For instance, the Medical Selection Committee in Tamil Nadu has opened applications in anticipation of the upcoming NEET results.
