Bengaluru, January 5: HS Doreswamy, the 101-year-old freedom fighter, participated and broke his fast in the satyagraha against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizen (NRC) on Saturday. The picture of the centenarian breaking his fast drinking coconut water went viral on social media and netizens hailed the spirit of Doreswamy, who battled old age and personal issues to stand with those protesting against CAA-NRC. Harohalli Srinivasaiah Doreswamy used to make bombs to fight the colonial British rule before he turned a Gandhian. Doreswamy participated in the freedom movement and remains a committed social worker. He turned 100 in April 2018. The said protest took place at Freedom Park in Bengaluru. Everybody present in the park were simply astonished to see Doreswamy fasting and fighting for the cause. Twitterati too is in awe of the centenarian's spirit, where he opposed the CAA and NRC. Doreswamy is known for his activism for human rights and had said at the time of repealing of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir that "had Gandhi been alive, he would have launched a Satyagraha against abrogation of Article 370."
