New Delhi, Mar 24: Despite the UIDAI claims of securing the Aadhaar using a robust mechanism, allegations of data leak continue to remain afloat. The latest charge has been levelled by a Delhi-based security researcher Karan Saini.

According to a report published in tech-portal ZDNetSaini found a state-owned utility company, which is using the unique identity number of the populace, is responsible for the leak.

The state-owned company, whose details are yet to be provided by the researcher, could be one offering any form of utility ranging from CNG, LPG, water to electricity.

ZDNet claims the information leaked through the Aadhaar data breach includes a person's name, personal address and bank account details.

"The affected system is still online and vulnerable. For that reason, we're withholding specific details about the vulnerability until it's fixed," ZDNet said, while citing the reason why it has not disclosed the details of the company which has caused the data leak.

The researcher while speaking to ZDNet, said the information could be available to anyone who is even remotely aware of hacking.

Giving an insight into the magnitude of the alleged data breach, he claimed "data of all" those enrolled in the Aadhaar system could be accessed.

Earlier in the month, the UIDAI issued a statement denying the possibility of data breach. The nodal Aadhaar agency accused the so-called ethical hackers of making unsubstantiated claims.

"UIDAI has dismissed the reports as irresponsible which appeared in a section of social and other media on security of Aadhaar system being questioned on account of a few Aadhaar cards reportedly put on the internet by some unscrupulous elements," the agency had said in its statement.

"UIDAI has advised people not to get confused with such reports which are far from the truth and intended to spread misinformation on India's robust identity system - Aadhaar - unnecessarily," it added.
