Hyderabad, September 20: A newly married couple was brutally attacked in Hyderabad by the girls' father, who chopped off the girl's hand and seriously injured her hand. According to a Times of India report, the girl is in a seriously injured state. The couple got secretly married after facing stiff opposition from the girl's family. On that fateful day, the accused father called up his daughter and told her to come with her husband and meet him for reconciliation. The couple readily agreed. The boy, who lost his father and is a college student, is a Dalit and the girl is an OBC. A CCTV footage showed that the girl's father arrived on a bike and pulled out a sickle from his bag, before launching the attack. The culprit first tried to hit the boy, who somehow managed to free himself and fled. He then saw his daughter, and he then hit her on her hand with the sickle. It was only when the man tried to hit his daughter again, that a man kicked him from behind and he went off balance. He left the scene as the crowd started gathering.

This incident comes days after the gruesome honour killing case in Nalgonda, where the Dalit man was murdered right in front of her pregnant wife.Amrutha's father Maruti Rao, whom she had accused of being behind her husband's murder along with her uncle Shravan, was among those arrested in what turned out to be a case of contract killing of Rs one crore, Nalgonda police chief A V Ranganath said Tuesday.

Shocking CCTV footage of the incident showed Pranay walking out of a hospital in Miryalguda with his pregnant wife when the assailant, who was later identified as Subhash Kumar Sharma, paced up and attacked him with a machete from behind, killing him instantaneously.

It is a real shame that inspite of the education, awareness in the society, such crimes like honour killing continue to take place in broad daylight.
