Bhaiyyuji Maharaj Suicide Leaves Political Leaders Shocked; MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Others Mourn Spiritual Leader's Death

Bhopal, June 12: Spiritual leader Bhaiyyuji Maharaj reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday. He was known for his political affiliations to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Maharaj allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself. He was declared dead after being rushed to Indore's Bombay Hospital.

The 50-year-old socio-religious leader had followers in all parts of the nation including high profile leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Pratibha Patil, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Maharaj recently refused the post of Minister of State in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government. The Madhya Pradesh police has begun a probe into the incident. Various political leaders have expressed their sorrow on the demise of the spiritual guru.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chauhan paid tribute to Maharaj through his tweet. He termed it as a loss to the nation.

Union Ministry Suresh Prabhu in his tweet expressed condolences to his family and followers.

Maharashtra’s cabinet minister Pankaja Munde also expressed her sorrow. In her tweet, she called Maharaj as part of her family.

Maharaj was born on April 29, 1968, in Madhya Pradesh's Shujalpur. His real name was Uday Singh Deshmukh. He was also fond of chess and cricket. After completing his graduation, he came to Mumbai, where he worked in a private company. Soon he left his job to pursue modelling. He had appeared in various advertisements of Siyaram. He was attracted to spiritual, so he left modelling also.

Maharaj founded the Sadguru Datta Dharmik Evam Parmarthik Trust having headquarters in Bhopal. He was married twice.
