New Delhi, June 9: Delhi is going to brace for thunderstorm accompanied by light rain and squall in the next three hours today. According to an advisory by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Delhi and NCR will witness heavy dust storm/ thunderstorm and wind speed up to 70 to 80 KMPH on Saturday evening.

On Saturday, the skies remained cloudy with the minimum and maximum temperatures around 31 and 39 degrees Celsius. On Friday, the maximum temperature yesterday settled at 41.4 degrees Celsius, whereas the minimum temperature was 29.2 degrees Celsius.

According to a Skymet Weather report, the average monthly rains of Delhi stand at 82 mm and till date, the city has not recorded even a single drop of rain. The report states that a trough is likely to form from Punjab to West Uttar Pradesh across Delhi and dust storm and thundershowers are expected in Delhi and its surrounding Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad around June 9.

To recall, this year monsoon has arrived earlier than expected. In 2017, the monsoon arrived on 30 May as predicted by IMD.  The southwest monsoon hit the Kerala coast on May 29, three days before its scheduled arrival.  The onset of monsoon over the southern state marks the commencement of the four-month-long rainy season in the country. The IMD has, however, made a forecast of "normal" rainfall this season.
