Allahabad, March 31: A statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar, also called the 'Father of Indian Constitution' was found vandalised on Saturday morning in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad in Jhunsi's Trivenipuram locality. This incident has taken place just two days after the Uttar Pradesh Government passed an order to officially introduce 'Ramji' as the middle name of Dr BR Ambedkar in all documents and records in the state.  On March 10, an Ambedkar statue was found vandalized in UP's Azamgarh and police had identified the miscreants though they were absconding. This incident comes days before Ambedkar Jayanti, which is celebrated on April 14.

The current statue vandalism incident also comes after the Samajwadi Party (SP), with help from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won the parliamentary bypolls in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur and Allahabad's Phulpur constituency.

The statue vandalisation spree began when the statue of Communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin was brought down in Tripura after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the Left front government out of power in the state. Following which, a statue of social reformer Ramasamy Periyar's statue, located inside the Tirupattur corporation office, was also destructed in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district. The next figure to come under attack was the bust of Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in Kolkata's Kalighat.

April 14 is Dr. Ambedkar's birth anniversary and is celebrated with great enthusiasm by his followers all over India. This act of vandalism shows that the fight over statues is not yet over and that miscreants are still at large when it comes to creating nuisance in the society by targeting figures of national importance. The response of the state or police over the matter is awaited. (With Agency Inputs)
