New Delhi, September 30: There will be at least three dry days in October 2019 because of festivals. However, in 17 states,  there will be more than three dry days in October 2019 due to elections. On these days, the government prohibits the sale of alcohol. The list of dry days for October gets longer due to assembly elections and bypolls in Maharashtra, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. Bank Holidays in October 2019: No Transactions at Branches For Four Consecutive Days, Check List of Dates When Banks Will Remain Shut This Festive Month.

There will be a dry day on October 2 on account of Gandhi Jayanti. The sale of alcohol will be banned on October 8 for Dussehra, October 13 for Valmiki Jayanti and October 28 for Diwali. In addition to this, there will be another four dry days in Maharashtra and Haryana where assembly elections are due. Another dry day will be observed on October 24 when the counting of votes will take place in the two states. Similarly, the sale of alcohol will be banned on above-mentioned dates in assembly constituencies going for bypolls in Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.

A by-election will also be held in Bihar. The Samastipur Lok Sabha seat in Bihar will go to bypolls on October 21. Therefore, there will be dry days in this parliamentary constituency on the dates mentioned above.
