Airoli, February 15: A 28-year old woman and her five-year-old daughter were killed due to fire in Airoli area of Navi Mumbai on Thursday. The incident took place inside a cosmetic shop at around 4 AM when the family was asleep. As per preliminary reports, both the deceased died of suffocation. As per details by a fire department official said, firemen rushed to the spot and four fire tenders doused the fire in an hour. The cause of the fire was being probed, he said, adding that preliminary findings indicated the blaze occurred due to a short-circuit.

As per details by Airoli fire station in-charge Eknath Pawar, the fire broke out around 4 am in the stationery shop in which the victims used to live. The Airoli fire station in-charge further informed that as the shop was locked from inside, the fire officials broke open the door to enter the premises engulfed in dense smoke.

The official said that the fire department personnel found the bodies of Manju Choudhary (28) and her daughter Gayatri Choudhary (5), who apparently died of suffocation.

According to reports by ANI, the shop owner, his brother and two toddlers, aged 1 and 2, were rescued from the premises. Reports further added that the bodies have been sent to a government hospital for a postmortem examination.

Earlier on Thursday, one person was killed after a massive fire broke out at a godown in Mittal Estate building in Mumbai’s Andheri. Five fire tenders rushed to the spot and after an hour of hard work flames were doused. As per ANI reports, the deceased- identified as Pradeep Vishwakarma (30), succumbed to injuries on his way to the hospital.
