New Delhi, Mar 24: A Delhi court on Saturday granted interim relief to Karti Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who was detained earlier in the month by the Central Bureau of Investigation for his alleged role in the INX Media case.

The single-judge bench, while hearing the anticipatory bail plea of Karti, granted protection to him from arrest till April 16.

Special Judge O P Saini also ordered the central agencies to file a detailed affidavit in three weeks listing out their objection to Karti's anticipatory bail petition.

The court's order comes a day after Delhi High Court granted bail to Karti, who was detained by the CBI since February 27.

Appearing on behalf of Karti, senior Supreme Court advocate Kapil Sibal argued before the bench that the CBI has failed to present any evidence to prove the links between Karti and the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) officials.

As per the CBI's chargesheet, Karti used his clout in the then Finance Ministry to influence FIPB to grant clearance to INX Media, which had allegedly flouted norms while procuring overseas funds.

Meanwhile, countering the ED's argument against his bail, senior advocate Gopal Subramaniam, also appearing for Karti, said his client would neither flee the country nor evade cooperation with the probing officials.

During the bail plea, Karti's father P Chidambaram, who is also a lawyer, was present alongside his counsel.
