Amroha, March 30: A mysterious case of over 200 monkeys having died within a week has left the villagers in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha vilage both intrigued and scared at the same time. The villagers are puzzled as to how such a large number of monkeys can die within a week when they have been living in the village for ages. The villagers have expressed their concern and are suspecting poisoning or the role of "chowmein chutney" in the whole incident.

According to villagers, it all started after some monkeys, which looked young and healthy, were found dead one after the other in the village. According to the preliminary reports, it is suspected that these monkeys were poisoned. However, the residents of the village claim that the monkeys died due to 'chowmein chutney'. Chowmein chutney is the name used for schezwan like red sauce used in noodles- the highly popular roadside junkfood sold in the towns of Uttar Pradesh.

The reason that villagers are suspecting the role of chowmein chutney is because certain dead monkeys were found with red patches on their skin as the video shows:

One young villager said that,"Monkeys have been living in our village for ages, but we are quite puzzled about the monkeys death as 150 to 200 monkeys have been found day in last few days. We are scared that if it's a disease it will soon spread to the villagers also." The forest department has ordered an inquiry into the case and a forest official has said that the dead monkeys are being buried by the villagers.
