New Delhi, January 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted the three northeastern states of Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya on their statehood day. The Prime Minister hoped they continue to achieve heights in all-round development.

PM Modi took to micro-blogging site Twitter and extended his special wishes in a series of tweets.  The Prime Minister greeted people of Meghalaya by saying, “I will always cherish the affection of the people of Meghalaya. The state’s natural beauty is enchanting. I pray for good health and wellbeing of the people of Meghalaya”.

For Manipur, the Prime Minister said, “May Manipur continue to scale new heights of growth in the times to come”.

While extending greetings for Tripura on its statehood day, PM Modi said, “Tripura is blessed with a glorious history and industrious youngsters, whose aspirations we are committed to fulfilling”.

In 1971, the government reorganised the North East region to ensure effective control of the international borders – three new states came into existence on 21 January 1972-- Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura. In simple words Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya attained statehood on January 21, 1972 under the North-Eastern Areas (Re-organisation) Act, 1971.
