Mumbai, May 29: In a bid to improve booking experience of a million passengers, the Indian Railways has revamped its popular IRCTC portal. The new features that have been rolled by the Railways are aimed to enable hassle-free train ticket bookings to all its passengers across the country. The IRCTC is a famous ticket booking website of the Indian Railways where thousands of ticket-seekers visit each day. In the recent past, Indian Railways has taken various steps to improve the services and facilitate the passengers.

These days, passengers expect visible and qualitative improvement in public utilities and amenities while they travel. With a view to meeting the expectations of the passengers, Indian Railways is making all out effort to provide improved facilities at the stations including those located in small cities/towns.

  1. First-time users or individuals who do not have an ID or a password can check trains and availability of seats even without a log in id. This new feature allows people to chck information regarding train details without having to create login details.
  2. You can select your preferred banks to make the payment. An individual can mark as many as six banks as ‘preferred banks,’ under the ‘My Profile’ section. This enables pssengers to book and make the payment in a user-friendly manner.
  3. A new feature named ‘waitlist prediction’ has also been introduced. This feature predicts the chances of a waitlisted or RAC ticket getting confirmed.
  4. The new features have been optimised to run seamlessly on mobiles, desktops, laptops, and tablets. The new user interface provides an excellent ticket-booking experience.
  5. A passenger can perform multiple activities through booked history. One can cancel, request an SMS copy, print your ticket, and change your boarding point if he/he wants.
  6. The website also has a ‘Vikalp’ scheme option which allow passengers to select an alternative train. This newly-launched scheme allows you to choose alternatives, in case of waitlisted tickets, in different trains, even the specials.

The Railways implements changes continuously, acting on feedback to improve the experience of passengers. It has always been the endeavour of the Railways to provide adequate amenities to all its passengers. Amenities are further augmented from time to time with growth in passenger traffic handled at stations, based on the felt need, expectations of the travelling public and availability of funds.

According to an official release, in 2016-17, 8221 million passengers travelled as against 8151 Million passengers in 2015-16 registering a growth (+0.89 %). Passenger Earnings in 2016-17 is estimated at Rs. 2,000 crore more than last year.The total earnings in 2016-17 are estimated to be around Rs.47, 400 crore. This is the highest ever passenger earnings.
