Gandhinagar, June 25: In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old man allegedly stabbed his four-day-old baby girl in Gandhinagar district of Gujarat on Sunday. The accused, Vishnu Rathod stabbed his daughter, because it was the sixth daughter and he wanted a son. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, The police in Moti Masang village under Dehgam taluka arrested Rathod after a complaint was filed by his father-in-law Jaswant Jetsinh.

Rathod visited his in-laws on Sunday evening to see her new-born baby. His wife, Vimla was at her parents’ place for the delivery. Jetsinh in his complaint accused Rathod of stabbing his sixth daughter when he visited Vimla. ā€œIt was the sixth daughter for 30-year-old Vimla and Vishnu. Married for about 10 years, the couple has other five daughters,’’ reported Hindustan Times quoting a police official as saying.

The 32-year-old accused stabbed his daughter when Vimla was asleep. His wife woke up after hearing baby’s cries. According to the report, his in-laws caught him when he was trying to flee from the spot and handed him to the police.

As per population census 2001-2011, there are 919 females against 1,000 males in Gujarat, whereas Haryana has the lowest sex ratio with 879 females against every 1000 males. Among Union Territories, Daman and Diu has the lowest sex ratio of 618. According to the census, there are 940 females to every 1000 males.
