Mumbai, June 19: Radhika Vemula, mother of deceased Rohith Vemula, has claimed that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has used them for their political gains. Two years after her son died, while committing suicide, Radhika has alleged that the IUML promised her a house and, she is yet to receive the full compensation.

As per The News Minute report, Radhika said that the Muslim League had promised to grant her Rs. 20 lakh, meant to build their own house. Sae said the promise was made days after her son, a research scholar of University of Hyderabad (UoH), committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room.

Radhika said, “When Rohith died, I was just crying in the velivada, and I had no idea about all the people coming and greeting me. At this time, these party members came from Kerala and said that they heard the news and heard that we were absolutely poor. Within one month, they took us to Kerala and made us participate in a big meeting with around 30,000 to 40,000 people and promised that they would sanction Rs 20 lakh and construct a house for us.”

The Vemula family has spent their entire lives in rented houses and for them having their own home was like living a dream. There were some media reports which stated that the site (for the house) had been identified too. Nonetheless, with all said and done, the promise remained a promise, two years after his son’s unfortunate death.

Radhika also said that a group of politicians had once visited her and clicked many photographs with a white cheque of Rs 25 lakh, with her. Later, the group of politicians, allegedly to be from the same party (IUML), went to Kerala and falsely stated that they had disbursed the amount.

However, after a lot of pressure was created by several organisations, only then they sent me a couple of cheques worth Rs 2.5 lakh each; of which, one cheque has bounced too. She also questioned their improper behaviour with her. She said, “Why are they troubling me so much? They can just call me and hand it over, instead of sending it in this manner, in instalments and by courier. If they don't want to give, they can say that openly as well, instead of harassing us in this way.”
