Lucknow, April 28: In another deadly incident, at least nine people have been killed after a vehicle rammed into a parked truck in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. As per details available, the vehicle was carrying 17 people in total.  The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital in Shahjahanpur. Reports inform that the incident took place on the National Highway 24 in Uchauliya under the jurisdiction of Pasgawan police station.

According to a PTI report, the incident took place at around 6 AM. According to the police, driver Anup Awasthi, 25, and his helper Kishan, 23, died on the spot. The Police informed that overspeeding could be the reason behind the accident. Efforts were underway to identity the deceased, the police added.

The road accident comes a day after the deadly Kushinagar accident in the state. Thirteen children were killed and eight others injured when a train rammed into their school van at an unmanned railway crossing in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar area, around 50 km from Gorakhpur on Thursday.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal today ordered an inquiry into the Kushinagar train-school van accident and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the deceased. The minister also said that the Railways will provide an ex gratia amount of Rs 1 lakh for those with serious injuries and Rs 50,000 for those simple injuries.

Meanwhile, reports inform that the Uttar Pradesh government has placed four officials under suspension on charges of laxity following the death of 13 children in a train-school van collision.
