Bengaluru, Aug 31: Train services connecting Mangalore and Bangalore will remain suspended till September 15 as debris mounted following landsldies are yet to be cleared from tracks. Earth excavating machines have been deployed to clear debris from a stretch of 56km between Subramanya Road and Sakleshpur Ghat to restore Mangalore-Bangalore train services.

According to Mysuru division of the South Western Railway, landslides was reported at 68 places between Subramanya Road and Sakleshpur Ghat that led to suspension of Mangalore-Bangalore train services. While debris have been cleared at 40 locations, more than 1 lakh cubic meter of rubble is yet to be removed from the remaining 28 locations, reported Times of India. Railway Employees, Locals Remove Boulders From Sakleshpur-Mangaluru Railway Track, Operation Underway.

Following heavy rains and incident of landlsides, train services to Bangalore from the coastal twon of Mangalore have been affected since August 13. As rains started lashing the Ghat section, prone to landlside, Mysuru division of the South Western Railway had to cancel and postpone several trains. Railway staff and local labourers are working round the clock to restore the line.
